India: The plight of Dalit Christians

For years Dalit Christians have been fighting a legal battle against the decision of past governments to exclude them from the benefits of positive discrimination granted to all Dalits, including those converted to Buddhism and Sikhism. Fr. Bosco (AND) has fought doggedly against this decision. Recently he succeeded, together with many other organisations, in bringing the case before the Supreme Court. Promised support by the new coalition government at the centre, they have been stunned by the latest position taken by the same government. At a recent appearance in court the ?Additional Solicitor General said the matter was outside the purview of the Courts and was to be left to Parliamentarians?
