With this special issue of Headlines we would like to give our readers a quick update on three grave emergencies taking place in three different areas of the world ? based on the information we received through fellow Jesuits. Two of them are natural disasters, the earthquake in Pakistan, Pakistan-administered Kashmir and Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir, and the floods provoked by hurricane Stan in Central America. The third, a smaller tragedy, in terms of the number of human lives involved, but one that calls nonetheless for our attention and urgent action, is the arbitrary deportation by Spanish and Moroccan authorities of a large group of sub-Saharan migrants, some of whom possess regular permits or are seeking asylum status.
