The involvement of the Society of Jesus is necessary and urgent (Chico Whitaker)

The SAPI group succeeded today in getting to interview Chico Wittaker and Oded Grajew, two members of the International Committee. Both admitted that the Forum learned a lot in India and that this learning has motivated three important changes: the Forum has left the university campus of Porto Alegre; the cultural dimension has been vigorously included, and the conferences organised by the International Council have been suppressed altogether. Asked about the role of Jesuits in the Forum, the answer was clear: we ask the Society of Jesus (and also all religions defending justice and fraternity) to incorporate themselves in the process as soon as possible! They indicated that if an invitation to attend a meeting is extended to them by the Jesuits, they would be willing to come provided it is done well in advance.
