Latin America. An ecological net

Five years ago, in 1999, a group of Jesuits and collaborators under the late Fr. Xavier Gorostiaga SJ started the Latin American Network of Ecology among the Jesuit Apostolic Works (Red Lationoamericana de Ecología de las Obras de la Compañía de Jesus). This was a response to the recommendations of the ecology document ?We live in a Broken World?. In 2001, the Rector of the Pontifical Javeriana University in Bogotá (Colombia) assumed the responsibility of coordinating this network, and of finding new alliances with other partners. Its objective is to be a meeting point for all the works of the Society of Jesus in Latin America engaged in ecology at local, regional, and national levels, to offer a space where they can be coordinated. The network aims at identifying Jesuits and collaborators from Latin America interested in ecological issues, consolidating the existing regional hubs (Mexico, Central America, the Caribbean, Brazil and the South Cone), and articulating the various ecological projects carried out by parishes, schools, spirituality centres, Social Centres, and Universities. The group has prepared a detailed plan covering the period 2003 / 5. [HL40405] For more details contact Jose Aguilar SJ,
