International stamina for justice

Jesuits for Debt Relief and Development (JDRAD) began in 1998 as an international network offering a Jesuit contribution to issues of debt and development. Now with the Jubilee behind us, the Board met in Dublin in December and decided to broaden JDRAD — in terms of research, lobbying and supporting other movements — to play a part in the Society?s effort to make its Ignatian spirit both universal and concrete. The new name is the International Jesuit Network for Development, whose acronym IJND sounds like an Indian word meaning ?stamina.? Three Technical Working Groups are concentrating on Governance, Debt, and Trade and Financial reform respectively. The Center of Concern (Washington) will ensure communication and co-ordination among the ten participating centres. [HL20106]
