India: Following the Lord?s footsteps in South Asia

South Asian society today struggles with the powerful forces of globalisation, religious fundamentalism, and ethnic nationalism. At the first Assistancy-level meeting of South Asia (India, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka) in Mumbai in October, 170 Jesuits talked about the challenge and opportunities of living the Good News in this context. It is Jesus who makes all things new, but how does one follow in his footsteps? Essential elements are a dynamic spirituality, a simple lifestyle, hospitality and closeness to the people. Apostolic action focuses on pastoral ministry, education and social action among the most vulnerable groups: youth, women, Dalits and tribals or indigenous peoples. Sharing the Good News requires networking with other persons and groups working for a just society, and a culture of dialogue with believers of other faiths. [HL11102]
