Some twenty Jesuits and lay colleagues involved in the social-pastoral sector in Argentina met at the end of October at the CIAS (Centre for Social Research and Action) in Buenos Aires for the ninth meeting of the social sector since 1994. They studied Father General’s Letter on the Social Apostolate, applying it to the social apostolate in Argentina. “We do not want to be satisfied with assisting and comforting those who are left out of society,” said Marcos Alemán SJ, but we should also prepare ourselves and form others to take an active role in social change. Let’s become capable of not only denouncing injustice, but also concretely announcing and indeed incarnating the Gospel. Participants agreed their energies should go to building the future in Argentina instead of resigning in the face of social and economic decay.
